Before And After The School Bell Rings: K-12 Life Safety is 24-7-365
Today’s school safety and security challenges are multifaceted and complex. There is no single action that will, by itself, make our schools safe. Protecting students and staff is a tremendous moral and legal responsibility that requires a comprehensive approach to these challenges. Solutions to these challenges must be pursued across all areas of emergency preparedness: prevention, protection, mitigation, response and recovery; however, a modern and effective security infrastructure is a central component of any comprehensive school safety strategy. When other prevention efforts fail, facility security measures are critical to protection, mitigation and response. What does it mean that K-12 Safety and Security is 24-7-365? School officials find themselves responsible for student, staff and community members before and after the first and last school bells ring. Think after school athletic events, student activities, school aged childcare, community facilities use and the daunting challenges of mental health interventions, school safety practitioners must be prepared.
- In this presentation we will cover these responsibilities and the policies, procedures and potential solutions, resources and leading practices that can help school officials to deal with the concerns before and after the school bells ring.
- Learn from real life situations and experiences from the presenters on how they managed the situations.
