Salient Product Lifecycle Policy

Salient’s hardware and software products have different lifecycle stages, milestones, and policies. The lifecycle for Salient’s software products applies to each major version of the software (example: CompleteView v6). The lifecycle for Salient’s hardware products applies to each hardware series (example: PowerChoice).

Stages

The lifecycle policies for software and hardware have various stages. The table below provides an overview and definition for various lifecycle stages:

Stage Application Definition
Active Software and Hardware products A generally available product that has active, ongoing engineering investment
Mature Software products A software product that no longer benefits from active engineering investment
Retired Software and Hardware products A product that is end of life and no longer available for sale or support

Notices

At Salient, the lifecycle of a product includes various notices to indicate transitions between life cycle stages. As products transition between those stages of Active, Mature, and Retired, Salient will provide notification of those changes. These notices will be distributed by email and published online. The table below provides an overview and definitions of the various notices.

Types of Notices Application Definition Timing of Notices
General Availability Software and Hardware A notice indicating that a product is available for general sale. This formally begins the ‘Active’ phase for a product. This notice is a part of a product’s public launch, when it is available for general sale
End of Maintenance Software A notice indicating when a product will no longer benefit from active engineering investment. This notice is necessary to transition a product to the Mature phase. 9 - 3 months before a product formally transitions to the Mature phase
End of Sale Software and Hardware A notice indicating when a product will no longer be orderable. 6 - 3 months before a product is no longer available for sale
End of Life Software and Hardware A notice indicating when a product will turn  obsolete, at which time technical support, documentation, training, and certification will no longer be publicly available. This notice is necessary to transition a product to the Retired phase. 12 - 9 months before a product formally transitions to the Retired phase
